How To Create Unique Content That Stands Out Among Other Influencers

It doesn’t matter if you are a blogger, YouTuber, or Instagram influencer.

If you want to ‘make it’ then you need to find a way to stand out.

And it all comes down to 1 thing: doing something that no one else is doing.

Now, when I say ‘make it’, I mean make a real career out of creating content online.

And to you that could mean becoming one of those super successful influencers who has hundreds of thousands of followers and is making millions of dollars.

You know the ones I’m talking about.

Or maybe it’s just making enough to just work for yourself full-time.

Heck, maybe even part-time to make a little cash while you stay at home raising your kids.

Whatever it is.

It doesn’t matter.

The only way you will stand out online is by doing something that NO ONE else is doing.

That’s it. Plain and simple.

So do we really need to continue with this blog post?

Eh. No.

But I’m going to anyway because I’ve got some tips to share with you that will help to make standing out a bit easier.

Let’s get into this.

create unique content

YOU DON’T HAVE TO REWRITE THE WHEEL

Hold up.

Before we really get into this, I don’t want you to think that I’m telling you to rewrite the wheel.

There comes a point where doing what’s already been done can be extremely successful.

Like the steps you need to follow to monetize your blog.

Or your email marketing strategies.

Or landing brand deals, signing contracts, and not getting screwed over.

You can learn a lot from the influencers that have walked the path before you.

But you don’t want to get stuck there.

You don’t want to create content just because it was successful for someone else.

What’s worked for them might not work for you.

AND why would someone follow you when they can follow the person that came up with the idea first?

You see what I’m getting at here.

So yes.

I’m going to tell you that you shouldn’t copy other people’s ideas.

But there comes a point where you shouldn’t rewrite the wheel.

Now that my minor disclaimer is out of the way, we can get to the good stuff.

HOW TO CREATE UNIQUE CONTENT

These days, there are SOOOO many influencers on the internet.

And it doesn’t matter what platform you are trying to make a splash on, you’re going to run into hundreds of thousands or MILLIONS of people just trying to have their content seen and their voices heard.

When I was just building my brand, I thought I had to create keyword specific blog posts that every other blogger had.

In my niche, that meant creating a lot of beginner guides.

Guide to SEO.

Guide to keyword research.

Guide to Pinterest group boards.

The list goes on and on.

I created a lot of generic blog posts that I thought I needed as the foundation of my success.

Because then, when I created more detailed blog posts, I could link to the beginner ones and my website would be well rounded!

No one would need to leave to find the information they were looking for.

And I’m not going to lie, this is a great strategy.

I like to have a ton of blog posts that I can link to and be as valuable as possible for you guys.

But those blog posts were posts that EVERYONE writes.

And it doesn’t matter who you go to, you’ll find the exact same information just worded differently.

So how the heck can you stand out?

Well…Roadmap to a Long Lasting Blog Career - promo

1. Find your writing style

From the very beginning, you need to find your writing style.

Yep. I’m not going to talk about your content ideas just yet.

I want to talk about the way you write your content.

Or if you’re an Instagrammer, the way you shoot, edit and share your photos. (Trust me, this will end up making sense to you too.)

Your writing style is important.

RELATED: How To Make Your Blog Posts Look More Interesting

It lays the foundation of who you are going to be with the content that you share.

Are you going to write long blog posts, shoot 20-minute long YouTube videos, or include 3 paragraphs in your Instagram captions?

Or are you going to keep it short, sweet, and to the point?

What’s the format going to be? And what can your audience expect every time they land on your content?

This is the foundation.

And it does actually make a big difference in the audience that you will attract and keep.

PRO TIP: Consider every option. Look at what other people are doing. What you like and what you don’t like. Then go from there.

2. Stick to a set voice and let your personality shine!

Then, it comes down to your voice and sticking to it.

And if you need another way to think about it, it’s just letting your personality shine through. In the best way possible.

In the beginning, I know that this can be hard.

If you go back and look at my old content, you can tell that I was a little lost.

I was trying to be perfect. To be liked. And create content that was just helpful.

But over time, I learned to write the way that I would talk to a friend.

And it makes my life SOOO much easier.

I’m not kidding. I can pump out content like it’s no big deal.

But it also helps to make me stand out from the rest. And really created a connection with my readers.

If you have read any of Melyssa Griffin’s content, then you know that her thing is ‘yo’.

I feel like almost every one of her blog posts and emails include the word ‘yo’.

And if I included a random ‘yo’ in one of my blog posts, I’m pretty sure you guys would be like ‘what the?!’

That’s her voice.

And I have my own.

So again, don’t try to copy someone else’s voice.

You have your own unique personality. And you need to find a way to let that shine through!

PRO TIP: Create like you’re sharing it with your best friend. When I write my blog posts I try to write exactly like how I would talk to someone. If I had someone walk up to me right now and ask how to stand out online, what would I say to them.

3. Don’t just copy content trends or what’s been successful for others

Now I’m not going to lie, I kinda love trends.

When YouTubers started to share ‘Responding To Your Assumptions About Me’ videos, I LOVED IT!

But there is a difference in joining one content trend compared to only doing what other successful people are doing.

And don’t get me wrong, I’ve fallen into this rut.

I’ve looked at people that I considered to be more successful than me, found their most successful blog post, and then created a variation of it for my own website.

But guess what?

It didn’t actually help me to grow.

At all.

I’ve found that the content that works best for me are the ideas that I came up with myself.

Things that pop into my mind at night and I create the next day.

Those ideas perform the best.

And obviously, if you’re creating content that other people have already created, you aren’t going to stand out.

And that’s the whole point of this blog post.

So do something different, mkay?

PRO TIP: It’s okay to copy trends every now and then. But if you really want to stand out, try to do a spinoff of trends. Like when YouTubers were creating videos about the dumbest purchases they’ve made, I created a video about the dumbest blogging mistakes I’ve made.

4. Share things that others aren’t sharing

If you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel, then you know that I love sharing content that breaks the mold.

Things that I feel like others aren’t sharing.

Things that bring you more behind the scenes so you get a real look at my blog, my business, and my life.

And even when I have a video that I know someone somewhere has shared before, like ‘How I Transformed My Beginner Blog Into A Real Business In Just 1 Year’, I try to share things that other people aren’t sharing.

And the thing that I like to do is see what people are sharing.

When you do your research, you’ll realize quickly that a lot of people are sharing the exact same thing.

Over and over and over.

So you need to find the gaps.

What aren’t they talking about that you can?

For me, this took a long time to master.

I was sharing the same tips that everyone else was sharing.

And I had to force myself to think differently.

It didn’t come easily. But the one thing that really worked for me was to brainstorm the things that I wouldn’t typically think of sharing.

The things that come easily to me, might not come easily to you guys.

So I try to share more little details, little intricacies that most people don’t think about.

PRO TIP: If you’re really stuck, try sharing things that are only personal to you. Like stories. No one else can share the experiences you’ve been through like you. So use them to your advantage.

5. Ask your audience what they want to see

But what if you’re someone that struggles with content ideas?

And you feel like everything you share is either because of your keyword research or what other people are sharing?

The best thing you can do is to ask your audience what they want to see.

Simple, right?

Honestly, it’s a bit too simple.

But I’m telling you, this will make a HUGE difference in helping you to stand out online.

Often times, influencers create content that either they want to share or they think their audience wants to see.

They will look at their analytics, see what’s performing well, and create more content like it.

I’ve done it.

And it works for a while.

But if you want to stand out, then you need to create content that your audience HONESTLY wants to see.

And what better way to do that then to ask them.

If someone wants something specific, there is bound to be someone else who is looking for that content too.

And the best part is that they might give you an idea that you would have never thought about. Something that no one else is creating content around.

And that could be your big break.

Hey, you never know!

PRO TIP: Ask your audience more questions about their current situation and why they view your content. That will give you the insight you need to create more amazing content for them.

MORAL OF THE STORY…

Be yourself and do something different.

It’s easier said than done.

I know.

But if you’re just getting started, the best thing you can do is practice.

Keep creating content every week. The more you create the better you will get.

And over time, you’ll make a big splash in the influencer world.

I know it!

So that’s it for today’s super inspirational blog post about how to stand out in the big sea of influencers.

Let me know what you do to stand out in the comment section below.

And I’ll see ya back here soon!

    1. Hi! I have been following you for a while now and I am starting my own blog, I have already got accepted for google adds and I have written content in the blog and two more blog posts left before I will start. But I have a question that I was hoping that you can help me to get an answer to.

So: I wanted to share deals and discounts in the webpage about clothing and brands.

Do I always need to have an affiliate contract with those brands or through affiliate network? Or am I allowed to share just any deal I find on internet… lets say I find that my favorite kids clothing brand is having huge -50% seasonal sale. can I post that and link to their webpage with the picture from their webpage?

Ofcourse sharing the direct link to the source! of those clothing brands I like and would like to recommend?

Because I have thought that this is not allowed to use pictures directly from other webpage without consent and I couldn’t find the answer for this.

So just for curiosity, if you do not mind helping me with this. And help to get me forward with this idea. or Do I need to apply for the network of all those brands that I want to share and even then is something like this allowed, or do I always need to take my own pictures?

Well, thank you very much and Happy New Year!
