The path that led me to The Content Bug is full of twists and turns. But in the end, I believe I am finally at the point where everyone should be:
Following a passion.
Well, hi there! I’m Cathrin. But since we are now digital besties, you can call me Cath!
And I can’t even begin to express to you how happy I am that you landed on my website. And more importantly that you landed on this page and want to learn more about me!
You’re a real friend. I can already tell!
So let’s take a minute to break the ice. I’ll go first!
So picture this… It was an October night in my first apartment and I was sitting on the couch eating ice cream with my dog by my side when I finally accepted the fact that I hated my life.
I hated my job.
I hated the town I lived in.
I hated my body.
And most importantly… I ultimately hated myself.
The few years leading up to this point were not easy. I was in college living the life that I thought was SOO amazing when it all came crashing in around me with severe anxiety and random depression. Growing up, I had never experienced anything like this. So when I was in my 20’s and just getting a taste of what so many people go through… it was crippling.
So I stopped taking care of myself. I ate whatever the heck was in front of me. I didn’t exercise rarely ever. I followed whatever path (aka my career) was handed to me. And it all seemed to work because then I didn’t actually have to think about anything.
When someone would ask me a question that was directed to who I was or what I believed, I would just start crying. And I’m telling you, all they could ask is “Why is your favorite color yellow?”… and cue the water works.
It took until me being alone with Fancy (my dog) on a Tuesday night to realize that I truly hated who I saw in the mirror. And it was in that moment that I knew something had to change.
So I started with my dreaded career.
My senior year of college I was offered an internship as a Digital Marketing Assistant. Which then lead to a full-time position as a Digital Marketing Consultant after I graduated. Now to most people, this is the goal in life! This is real success!
But not to me.
I was never one to follow the beaten path. That’s just not the life for me. I’m an artist, a creator, and a thinker. So whenever I just settled on a career that someone told me would make me 6 figures in 5 years, it just didn’t seem right.
But what did feel right was writing online.
In just 5 short months, I learned a lot about the online world. But the one area that kept pulling me back in was digital content. I learned that I truly loved writing! And that’s a beautiful thing.
So what you don’t know about me is that over the span of 5 years, I had actually created 3 different websites and deleted them all. Mainly because I had no idea what I was doing or what I really wanted the website to be about.
So when I decided that I needed a way to change my current work situation, I thought it was about darn time that I went through with something that I’ve been wanting to do for awhile: own a website.
Enter The Content Bug.
In October 2016, I had no idea what I was going to do with this website other than blog. So I paid for a domain and pushed forward to try and create a career that I actually enjoyed.
So now I get to welcome you to The Content Bug!
This is the place that I get to share all of my industry knowledge with you about digital content, SEO, social media, blogging, and more so that you can change your life just like I did a year ago.
Now, as I sit here today writing this, I have to admit that I’m a little teary-eyed.
That girl that I was talking about sitting on her couch with her dog on a Tuesday night, she’s nearly unrecognizable. I’m not going to tell you that every aspect of my life is now perfect and happy go lucky. Because it’s not.
But I now love what I do. And I love the lady that I see in the mirror.
And that make’s all the difference.
Now, that got pretty hot and heavy didn’t it?! Let’s lighten up the mood a bit.
Here are 10 fun facts about me…
- I love dogs… more than humans most days. Oh, and my dog’s name is Fancy… in case you missed that before… She’s my bestie!
- Potatoes are my favorite food… I could eat them every day if I let myself.
- I can’t ride a bike… #embarrassing
- I love the color gray. I’d be happy if everything in my life would be black, white, and shades of gray.
- I like to read physical books. I don’t read ebooks. There is something about flipping through the pages that is extremely satisfying.
- I light a candle (almost) every morning to start my day. I prefer that over a morning cup of coffee.
- I like Batman. A lot. You might actually consider it love. It’s a problem.
- I’m a photographer and majored in photography in college. So all of the photos you see on this website I took.
- Over the past few years, I developed a fear of flying… It’s terrible and I feel bad for whoever has to fly with me.
- My happy place is at the lake. Any lake really. Sitting by the calm of the water just feels like home.
That’s all for now! Have some fun exploring my website. I hope you find it as helpful as I intended it to be.
Until next time my loves.
