LIFE UPDATE: I got engaged, 1K subscribers on YouTube, & a new book?!
I don’t do these blog posts a lot.
But I feel like I need to pop in today to share a little bit of a blog and life update with you guys.
Let me just start by saying, life is good.
I keep saying ‘all good things, all good things’ on my Instagram stories.
And I truly do mean it.
I have been blessed with a few exciting things recently and I want to share.
But there have also been some not so good days.
I have cried because of happiness and also cried because of overwhelm.
Overwhelm with everything exciting.
But also overwhelm with just life and business and everything else.
So let’s just start with the big one…
I GOT ENGAGED
Yep. You read that right.
Alex and I got engaged.
So let’s just reminisce for a second and take it back to the freshman year of college.
We met our freshman year at Lycoming College. Skeath Hall to be exact.
We were both on the swim team and I remember the first time I saw him in the hallway.
He was bubbly, high energy, and talking to the girls in the dorm across the hall.
Now picture me.
Sitting in my bed, terrified to talk to anyone.
If you ever met me, you would realize just how shy and quiet I am.
And there Alex was, just walking up to people he didn’t know and having a full conversation.
Totally foreign to me.
So I did what anyone would do. I did a little internet stalking and found his Facebook profile.
He had a profile picture of him sitting on what looked to be a cliff or some big rock.
And I immediately thought that he was some kind of hot shot that thought he was everything and a bag of chips. The popular kid in high school.
And I didn’t really want anything to do with him. Hahahah.
Fast forward 7 years and we’re planning our wedding.
Funny how the world works.
I don’t really remember when we became friends.
But freshman year we were the best of friends.
Seriously inseparable. I feel like we went everywhere together.
Now I went into college with a boyfriend who still lived back home.
And Alex and I would talk to each other about our dating life.
As he pursued other girls, I would listen to his stories.
And when I broke up with my boyfriend and looked for the next possible candidate, I went to him for advice.
At the time, I really didn’t have any interest in dating Alex.
I friend-zoned him in my mind. Looked at him more like a brother than someone I wanted to date.
So when my first sorority formal came around, I, of course, wanted to invite Alex because I knew that we would have a freakin blast together.
And that’s really where it all began.
We started officially dating just days before the end of our freshman year.
Flash forward to now
We have been living together for 3 years.
We adopted Fancy together almost 3 years ago too. It will be 3 years on June 26th.
We bought a house together a year and a half ago.
And now… we’re finally engaged.
I say finally just because we’ve been dating for 6 years. But this was always our plan.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to you that we have some pretty big dreams.
We want to do something amazing with our lives.
And getting married right out of college just didn’t fit our plan.
We wanted to set up our careers and buy a house before we paid for a wedding.
But now the time has come.
And I’m excited but also terrified – just because I hate planning lol.
How he proposed
I mainly want to include this just so I can go back and read it a couple of years from now.
So here it goes.
Alex and I have talked about getting married, engagement rings, and all that fun stuff before.
And I made it pretty darn clear that I didn’t want anything fancy when it came to a proposal. I
didn’t want something that was unnatural.
I didn’t want a big party or my family waiting to pop out of the trees.
I just wanted it to be Fancy, Alex, and I. And that’s it.
So this man.
Gosh, he’s a freakin dream.
He planned a camping trip, which is totally normal for us, in a place that had no cell reception.
It was pretty remote.
I’m talking a one traffic light town that only has a Dollar General to shop at. That’s where we had to buy food and other things that we forgot to pack.
So we went on a hike the first day there and he said that he wanted to take a family photo for Fancy’s Instagram account.
Mind you. He just recently started taking this over.
We hadn’t posted to it in over a year and then he started posting every day.
It was something that he was enjoying so I didn’t even question when he wanted to take a photo.
After a few minutes of trying to figure out how to set the camera up on a timer to take a burst of 10 photos.
This is something that I do all the time. But Alex didn’t know how to do it on his phone.
So it was a challenge explaining it to him haha.
When he finally got it working, and ran to the spot to pose for the picture, Fancy spun around and her butt was the center of the shot.
I thought it was hysterical because I try to take photos with Fancy all the time. And you just have to roll with what she’s doing and hope you get a good one.
Alex obviously didn’t think it was funny because he was trying to get a proposal shot. And I had NO IDEA!
So Alex ran back to the camera to set it up for another shot. And I was supposed to hold Fancy in position.
When he ran back, he pulled out the ring box from his hiking backpack, and I could feel him looking at me.
You know that feeling.
So I looked over and there it was.
THIS FREAKIN GORGEOUS RING!
There I was in shock and awe.
I kept saying that.
Shock and awe. (Any Hitch lovers out there?!)
I honestly had thought that we weren’t going to get engaged for another 2 years.
With me working to build my business and us buying a house, we’ve been tight on money.
And a wedding?! Gosh, we couldn’t afford that.
So we talked about it like it was still so far away.
Well, obviously Alex had other plans.
Here’s the picture that was captured when it happened.
Bug in the shot and all. No, that’s not edited in there.
Now take a look at my face.
This is the face that I will give anyone whenever I’m surprised or confused.
I’m not the type of girl that would have a cute reaction where she smiles or cries or covers her mouth with joy.
I’m the girl that gives you the look like “what the eff are you doing”.
And that’s the exact face I gave him when he said: “marry me”.
After I asked him a million times if it was real and not a joke. I, of course, said yes.
Took the ring, put it on my finger, and started to tear up.
I kept telling him that it was stupid pretty.
Like prettier than I ever expected.
And prettier than I could have ever designed myself.
He ended up getting it custom designed with no help from me. All he knew was that I wanted a circle and I wanted it to have lots of detail.
Boy oh boy.
This thing is perfect.
I keep looking at it in awe that it’s on my finger.
MY EBOOK IS NOW AVAILABLE ON AMAZON
Enough engagement talk.
Let’s talk business.
Last week I FINALLY got my ebook on Amazon in Kindle form.
This is something that I’ve been talking about doing forever.
And whenever people ask me if my ebook was available for Kindle, I would say that I was working on it!
But I really wasn’t.
A year ago, I did my research and I was immediately discouraged.
The way I had originally created the book didn’t match up with Amazon’s standards.
So I would have to completely reformat the book.
And that’s a decent amount of work. Let me tell you!
But a few weeks ago I decided to finally do some of the things that I had been pushing off.
Like going to the dentist and creating a plan to launch my book on Amazon.
So I sat down and figured out exactly how I was going to do it.
Then a few weeks later, I submitted it to Amazon and within a couple of hours, it was live!
I thought it was going to take a couple of days.
But it took only an afternoon!
So yeah. If you want to buy my ebook on Amazon in Kindle form, you can do that here.
Now my next goal is to finally get it published in physical form. Hopefully sometime soon!
I WAS FEATURED ON A PODCAST
This was something that I wanted to manifest this year.
And in April I had someone reach out to me asking if I wanted to be interviewed on their podcast.
I immediately freaked out and replied that I would love to!
And now it’s finally live!
If you want to learn more about my entrepreneurial journey, my struggles with making money, money blocks, debt, and all that fun stuff, definitely give it a listen.
It’s only a half hour long.
So it’s not that big of a time commitment 🙂
I HIT 1,000 SUBSCRIBERS ON YOUTUBE
This feels a bit silly to include in my life update.
But this is something that I’ve been working toward for over a year.
So I’m happy to say that I hit 1,000 subscribers on YouTube!
Now I just need to increase my watch hours and I’ll have my YouTube channel monetized!
I’M WRITING ANOTHER BOOK
I haven’t actually said that out loud to anyone other than Alex.
But now that it’s out there, I have to get it done, right?
Fun fact, I started this book back in December of 2017.
I went to bed before Alex and decided to bring my iPad to write a blog post.
Without even thinking about it, I started writing a book.
That was not my intention at all!
But when I started writing, the words were coming from somewhere outside of me. And it wasn’t something that could be made into a blog post.
It was clearly being written with the intention of being a book.
So I would write a little here and there every few months.
But then I pushed it off and told myself that it was something I should just keep to myself.
It wasn’t until I decided to do the things that I’ve been pushing off that I created a plan to finish the writing and actually launch the book.
At this point, it’s still a little rough. I’m only a third of the way through.
But my goal is to launch it by the end of the summer!
So stay tuned.
To give you a little insight… this book isn’t about blogging.
It’s not like The Blog Hustler where it’s a guide to help you achieve your blogging goals.
This one is more like a self-help book.
It’s sharing my story and how I was able to completely transform my life from negative to positive. How I was able to go from a life I hated to a life I now love.
This book is seriously a dream of mine.
Once I started to read self-help books, I wanted to create my own.
So here I am!
And I’m beyond excited to share.
THAT’S IT FOR TODAY
Let’s address one last thing…
I know I’ve been a bit MIA on my blog recently.
And I explained in my last blog post that I was working on rolling some things out so I was backing down from my once a week schedule.
But since then, I’ve slacked a little.
I’ve been really focused on growing my YouTube channel and creating video content that I haven’t taken the time to sit down and just write.
So I’m glad that I was able to write this post for you guys.
But the next one is going to be super informative and back to the normal content you signed up for.
And if you’re missing my blog posts, make sure you subscribe to my YouTube channel because I upload new videos every 3 days!
Now that’s actually it for this post.
I’ll see ya back here soon.
