5 Habits That Helped Me Transform My Life
Just 2 years ago I was miserable.
I hated just about everything in my life.
And if you would have asked me back then, I would have told you that I hated everything.
But looking back now, I know that’s not true.
Sometimes the good stuff can get covered up by all of the bad stuff. And it’s much easier to focus on the bad.
To only realize everything that’s wrong instead of everything that’s oh so right.
But still… I was unhappy.
And it took a long time for me to realize that something had to change.
So if you’re in a spot where you’re unhappy with your life and you know something has to change but you just don’t know what, well… I’ve been there.
Now I want to help you make it to the other side.
THE FIRST STEP TO CHANGE
I heard this quote last week saying something about how change is the result of action. And action is the result of a decision.
Most people want change.
Or they say that they want to change.
But they lack the decision and the action that come before it.
It took me a year and a half to realize that I was extremely unhappy with my life. So when that realization hit, it came in like a wrecking ball.
I was finally facing something that I had suppressed for so long.
And I knew right at that moment that I had to change. And I wasn’t going to wait to do it.
I bought the domain for my blog that night to try and take back control of my life.

So before anything will change, you have to realize that you want something to change.
And then you need to make the unbreakable decision that it’s going to change.
No turning back.
UNCOVER WHAT’S REALLY WRONG
Like I said, when something is wrong, it can be hard to understand what’s actually wrong.
There are a lot of emotions that can take over. And it can seem like there isn’t 1 specific problem but just a big problem as a whole.
Like your whole life is wrong.
But we all know that that’s not the case.
There is so much good in all of our lives to be thankful for. It just gets covered up with the bad sometimes.
So you need to take the time to figure out what’s really wrong.
Two years ago, when I was extremely unhappy, I discovered that I was really unhappy about 3 things: my job, where I was living, and myself.
The last one is a bit harsh.
But I didn’t know who I was at the time. And I didn’t like the person that I was being.
Once I uncovered those 3 things, it helped me to actually make a change.
HOW TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE THIS YEAR
There are so many things that I want to tell you.
But instead of typing it all out, I decided to sit down with my camera and chat with you guys about my experience.
So watch this video.
And then we’ll talk about the habits that really helped to transform my life.
NEW HABITS THAT HELPED TO TRANSFORM MY LIFE
Like always, I’m going to be completely honest with you guys…
If you want to transform your life, you’re in for one heck of a ride.
It’s not an easy thing to do.
And your old life and habits will come back kicking and screaming to keep you stuck. To keep you the same.
That’s why I think it’s so important to create new habits that helped to make the transition smoother.
Plus, you can create better habits that overwrite the old habits that were only keeping you stuck.
So here are some habits that really helped to transform my life.
Things that just made the process easier. And some things that really did have a massive impact on the change.
1. Creating a morning routine
I’ve read several articles sharing that successful people say their morning routine helps to make each day productive and successful in their eyes.
Starting each day doing the same things can help you to ease into the day and provides you with a sense of accomplishment within the first few hours of the day.
Simple things such as making the bed, exercising, meditating, etc.
All of these things that you can check off your list of the day helps to make it feel like your day has started off productive and will help to make the rest of the day productive as well.
I first started implementing a morning routine in 2018.
And I love it!
It gives me the motivation to get out of the bed in the morning instead of snoozing for an extra hour. The first 2 hours of the day are all about me.
It’s my time to get good with my soul. And without it, I feel off!
What is in my morning routine?
Well, I try to meditate, read, journal, eat breakfast, shower, get ready for the day, start my diffuser in my office, and then get to work!
2. Exercising almost every day
Exercise has been key to my mental health.
For a while, I thought the only benefit of working out was to look a certain way.
To lose weight, gain muscle, or maintain your current weight.
But boy oh boy, that’s not true!
You probably already know that when you exercise your body releases endorphins.
Well, these lovely things can actually make you happier and more energetic.
And for me, exercise helps to provide me with a sense of clarity. AND it makes me more focused and productive throughout the day.
If I ever have one of those days where I seem to be bouncing all over the place lacking focus, I know that it’s because I haven’t worked out!
It’s some sort of miracle worker for me. So I try to work out or move my body in some way every day.
3. Reading self-help books
You guys already know my love for self-help books.
I couldn’t even tell you how many I read at this point.
But I first got started with them a few months after I decided that I was going to transform my life.
From there, I’ve never turned back.
These books helped me to uncover a lot about myself and helped to point me in the right direction for where I wanted to go.
It’s where I first learned about meditating, manifesting, the exchange of energy, and the power of the Universe.
So if you’re thinking about making a big change in your life, I highly recommend you start reading self-help books.
They work wonders!
I first tried meditation in college.
I remember sitting on my bed, putting in my headphones, and using the Calm app to meditate.
But I just didn’t get it!
My mind wouldn’t quiet down. I couldn’t even focus on what they were telling me to focus on.
Instead, I let my thoughts continue to run the show. And I didn’t try meditation until a year later.
Thankfully, this time I had learned a little bit more about meditation.
It’s not about making your mind completely quiet. That’s like telling your heart to stop beating.
It’s more so about understanding that your thoughts come and go. And you have the power to decide what ones have an impact on you!
If you haven’t tried meditation before, I highly recommend you giving it a shot!
It’s helped me a lot with my anxiety and the little guy in my head that likes to run the show from time to time.
I only meditate for about 5 to 10 minutes a day. And then whenever I feel like I need to recenter, I’ll go back to focusing on my breath all throughout the day.
5. Regular self-care
When I was extremely unhappy with my life, I didn’t care for myself AT ALL!
Like I didn’t want to even shower, do my hair, or put on human clothes most days.
If you saw me back then you wouldn’t recognize me.
But I made it a requirement to start taking care of myself.
That meant doing small things like doing my hair every day and putting on makeup.
Buying clothing that excited me and getting rid of the stuff that I always avoided wearing.
I started to take baths weekly (which I really need to get back to now that I think about it).
I attended yoga classes. Treated myself to lunch every now and then.
I started to use more face masks and treat my face for what it needed instead of ignoring it.
I bought a dry brush and now I try to dry brush my skin at least 3 times a week. And I have to say… it does really work wonders on making your skin feel amazing!

All of that to say that self-care is different for everyone.
Simply reserving the time to work out and get good with my soul in the morning is a form of self-care to me.
NOT EVERYONE IS THE SAME
When I was starting to make the steps to transform my life, I tried to learn about what other people were doing.
I wanted a simple system to follow.
‘10 Steps To Create A Life You Love’
I would have died for a crash course like that!
But the truth is that there will never be a system like that that works for everyone.
Because everyone is different. And what works for me, might not work wonders for you.
Maybe you can’t find the benefit to meditation. But you really enjoy journaling.
It’s important to try new things.
Listen to other people’s advice on what worked for them. But then listen to what’s working for you!
And run with it.
Stop doing what isn’t serving you. And focus on what is.
This will help you to not only change your life in the most effective way possible. But it will also help to uncover what makes you… you!
So go out there and change your life.
But know that it’s won’t come easy.
And it won’t happen in the blink of an eye.
