Facebook is the largest social media platform with an average of 1.23 BILLION daily active users. Do you realize how many people that is?! I can’t even begin to comprehend how many people actively use Facebook on a regular basis.
But it’s true. Facebook is extremely popular. So popular, in fact, that many digital marketers focus their efforts to advertise to Facebook users. This resulted in Facebook dominating the paid advertising landscape across the globe, making an estimated $15.50 billion in ad revenues in 2015.
This is just amazing.
To say the least, Facebook is a social media powerhouse. And it isn’t going anywhere. From its creation in 2004, Facebook has paved the way for other social media channels by continually providing the best for its users.
So don’t you think that it’s time that you start taking advantage of Facebook to drive traffic to your website? I sure think so!
In this post, we will discuss how to use your Facebook bio, your Facebook Business Page, and Facebook groups to generate more traffic to your website

My Facebook Experience
When I was younger, my family shared 1 desktop computer that sat in the corner of the living room. We would take turns using it in our non-existent free time (thanks, swimming). Whenever I got the chance to surf the web, I often found myself on AIM messaging friends from school. Or I would waste time on Myspace fighting over who to put in my top 8.
You know, the normal things you do when you were in middle school in the early 2000’s.
But one day, my brother told me about the best-kept secret. Myspace was out, and Facebook was in. He had an account and I would watch him play around as he showed me the ropes. And as soon as I could, I signed up for an account of my own.
Now if you can imagine, joining Facebook in 2008, while I was in my prime-time teen years, might not have been the best idea. My posts looked a lot like this:
Trust me, I was really cool. But anyways, there is a point to me sharing my Facebook story I swear.
I have been active on Facebook for 9 years now. It is crazy to think that the past 9 years I have been a member of a community without really even thinking about it. And over those 9 years, I have collected 918 Facebook friends.
If you asked me right now to name 300 people that I know personally, I probably couldn’t do it! Heck, make that number 100. To think that I have over 900 Facebook friends is crazy (& I should probably weed through those “friends” sometime soon).
But now that I am a digital marketer, I’ve come to realize that I already built up an audience around myself. So that when I am ready to blast my business and website to the world, I have 900 some people who may or may not be interested!
And this leads right into my first way of how to drive traffic to your website with Facebook: Your Facebook bio!
1. Your Facebook bio
Go ahead and take a look at your Facebook wall. How many friends do you have? Are you active on your page? Is your about section filled out completely?
If you take a look at my wall, you would probably be disappointed. 1. Because basically everything is private so you wouldn’t see anything exciting anyways…HA! And 2. Because I barely update my page since I am more addicted to Instagram (it’s a problem).
But what I’m getting at here, is that your Facebook profile is a great way to drive traffic to your blog.
Did you know that you can add your website address, and social links right to your bio? Yep. This way your friends can always see your website and social accounts. And this is what mine looks like:
And adding this information to your bio is easy. Just go to the about section of your account.
On the right aside of your overview section, you can hover over the “Edit your contact and basic info” option. Once you click on that, you can add your website address and all the social links that you want.
So now you are probably wondering: okay, that’s cool… but how is that a way to drive traffic?
WELL, it is what you do with what you have that allows you to drive traffic. If you continually share information from your website in posts, like a new blog post or a new service, you will start to generate awareness and drive traffic. Plus, when someone stumbles on your account, they will see your website link right in your bio! Thus leading them to your website.
So this really does drive traffic to your website if you put in a little work.
2. Create a Business page
This is one of the most common ways that people drive traffic to their websites with Facebook.
Facebook Business pages are nothing new. They have been around for a while. And a lot of companies have a business page to keep their audience up to date with their happenings.
And guess what? You need to do that too!
Right now, whatever you are doing, need to head over to Facebook and get a Business Page. Even if you don’t want to immediately share it with the world, that’s fine. But you still need to claim your name and own a page!
And once you are ready, go ahead and make that baby public!
Now that you have a Facebook Business page, this is where things get fun. And exciting for the traffic on your blog.
Your Facebook Business page can be whatever you make it. Just make sure that it follows true to your brand and your goal for social media. If you want to create an honest relationship with your audience, then don’t post every day like a salesman. Instead, make it seem like a conversation. Mention your website as a way to help them or a way to answer a problem of theirs.
But make sure that you use your Business page to ultimately drive traffic to your website! Don’t be afraid to talk about it. That is why people are following your Business page to begin with. Because they want to know more about your business! So share links to your website. Share when a new blog post is live. Share when a new product or service is launched.

Just don’t be afraid to talk about it! Because then you are wasting a great opportunity to reach the people who are interested in you.
I bet you were expecting me to put this as one of the 3 ways. And you might be questioning why I placed it under the Facebook Business page section. So let me explain.
Like I said before, advertising alone brings Facebook more than $15 billion in revenue each year. So clearly, Facebook ads are well known and well used. If you haven’t thought about using Facebook ads then it might be time to reconsider.
Facebook advertising is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your website and get your audience to complete a conversion. And the best part: they are relatively cheap! You can start to run a Facebook ad with just $5 a day. And you can cancel the ad at any time.
Everything within the ad you create can be completely customized!
Another great thing about Facebook advertising is that you can specifically target your audience. So based on your Google Analytics you can determine who your current audience is and who you want to target in the future. Just set the geographic location, age, sex, interests, religion, education, occupation, and more.
Now this all sounds pretty great, right? Well, the reason I didn’t put this as one of the ways to drive traffic to your website is that not everyone is willing to pay for an ad. Or they aren’t at the stage where they want to buy an ad. Maybe, you don’t even believe in ads!
This list was created with the everyday go-getter in mind. So with that said, let’s jump on over to the last way to drive traffic to your website!
3. Join Facebook groups
Last, and almost most importantly, is to use Facebook groups to drive traffic to your website.
If you have never heard of Facebook groups outside of your high school reunion group, then you need to wake up and step into the Facebook world. There are numerous Facebook groups dedicated to all different things! And I guarantee that you can find a group that fits into your niche.
I am a part of 15+ Facebook groups. And to some, that may sound like a lot. But to others, I need to step up my game.
I am a member of a digital marketing group, a digital ad buy group, a women entrepreneur group, and several other blogging groups. Each of which provides different benefits. And each allow me to engage and interact with people that are trying to do that same thing as me: make a living and follow a passion.
Now I have to be honest, I don’t use these Facebook groups to their full potential! If I really wanted to be taken seriously, I would comment more, post unique content to the group, and engage more. But I don’t.
And that’s fine.
Now, one of the best parts about some of these Facebook groups is that you get the chance to promote yourself and others!
I have a promotional checklist that I use for each of my blog posts. Meaning that each blog post gets shared in a variety of different areas and several Facebook groups! And it is those groups that I get to interact with new readers.
Generally, people in these groups are ready to engage and want to learn. I receive a lot of comments from others and shares based on giving a little description of what’s going on with my website.
So in the end, Facebook groups are a great way to drive traffic to your website!
But don’t get stuck with the thought that you only use those groups to promote. Try to find a happy medium and give as much as you take.
