My Goals for 2017

If you read Successful Content is More Than a New Year’s Resolution, then you are probably questioning why I even wrote this.

But I want to clarify. These are not my New Year’s Resolutions, but instead my goals for the year.

These are things that will take time to achieve. They will not happen overnight. And they will not happen by simply slacking off.

No.

These are goals that I will work towards almost every day, to get one step closer every chance I get.

New Year, New Me... right? Just kidding. Just some new goals I set for myself and my website for this new year ahead of us. Let's dive on in!

Goals for 2017:

At the end of 2016, I sat down with my iPad Pro and I recorded a video of my thoughts. Just everything that came to mind.

I needed to sit down and document what was going on in my life and where I want to be a year from now. Needless to say, the video is over 17 minutes long. And I have yet to watch the whole thing.

But here I am today with a list of all my goals for 2017. And what success would look like to me at the end of the year.

Read more to learn about this crazy journey I am on and follow me as I need your help to get there.

End Goal: To Be Working on My Own

As you may already know, I work full time for another company. And this website is currently just my side chick.

But as much as I love the work I am doing for them, I know that I am not meant to work there forever. I have a feeling deep down that I am supposed to be working on my own, and doing my own thing.

For a long time, I have dreamed of the day where I am not reliant on a boss. Where I can be my own boss. Where I can set my own schedule. Where I can work my butt off for myself and those around me, without worrying about the person I report to.

It is only fitting that I make this my ultimate goal. So by the end of 2017, I will be working on my own (even if that means just taking my full-time job and turning that into my side chick… aka part-time job).

And to achieve this end goal, I have 5 smaller goals I must achieve.

1. $5,000 in income each month

I am a very practical and strategic person.  And I absolutely hate to set money as a means of success. But to achieve my end goal, I have to remain practical.

If I am going to be working on my own, I need a steady income that can support me.

So with that said, my goal is to make $5,000 a month in income by the year end. This only includes work related to The Content Bug. Meaning ads, services offered, coaching, and whatever else this journey might take me.

2. Publish 50 blog posts

This goal is specific to my website. I created a content calendar where I am scheduled to publish 1 post a week to The Content Bug.

But, you know how things work… we tend to fall off schedule sometimes.

So my small goal for this one is to publish 50 posts this year. Meaning I can only miss 2 weeks. Not too shabby.

3. 5 guest blog posts

So I want to clarify: this is strictly related to The Content Bug.

For my full-time job, I write content for a variety of clients as well as the company itself. To me, all those sites do not count as guest blog posts.

So my goal is to be published on 5 sites other than The Content Bug.

This goal is going to take time and a lot of outreach on my part. I have wanted to be featured on other sites, but haven’t pushed myself to actually do it. So this year, I am going to do it! I am going to put myself out there. And I am going to expand my reach.

Just watch me.

4. 50k followers on Instagram

Most people say: “Don’t base your success on your social media following.” And if you aren’t trying to be successful online, and you just use social media for fun, then I agree.

But my website is all about everything online. And If I am not successful online, how will people respect my authority when I tell them how to be?!

So my goal for my Instagram account is to have 50k followers by the end of 2017. And as you can see, I’m starting from the bottom with 138 current followers.

5. 1k followers on Pinterest.

My last goal is to have 1k followers on Pinterest by the end of 2017.

Now, some of you may be thinking this is a small goal. And I agree, it is. But, I have the least amount of experience with Pinterest.

I will learn throughout the year how to build my presence and in time, do just that! So for now, my goal may be a little low. But I am always realistic.

And just like Instagram, my Pinterest is starting from the bottom as well with only 163 followers.

Conclusion

These are just some my goals throughout the year. I set 1 big goal and then 5 small ones to determine that success.

At the beginning of each month, I will not do a monthly goal post. But instead, do a monthly recap. To share what I did that worked and didn’t work.

So follow me each month as I share my journey to reaching my own vision of success. And remember, don’t ever define your success by someone else’s goals. Always set your own!
